Salmonella typhimurium

Salmonella typhimurium is a Gram negative mobile whose natural host may be animals such as chickens, turkeys, geese, ducks, cattle, pigs, among others. This bacterium has been found with higher prevalence in human infections caused by consuming contaminated food. Since most infections with this pathogen occur in asymptomatic form to birds, they can generate significant public health implications because the infected lots become important reservoirs of Salmonella can potentially be transmitted to consumers.
Symptoms of infection with S. typhimurium in chickens may include drowsiness, weakness, loss of appetite, manure accumulation of white in the sewer. As mentioned above, in adult birds usually show no clinical symptoms.
The diagnosis of infection with S. typhimurium can be achieved by isolation and identification of Salmonella using the conventional method of cultivation or DNA-based techniques. Bioingentech can detect Salmonella typhimurium using the following techniques, supported by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) (2, 3):
